Later I watched him occasionally during grad school our cable system had whatever channel he called home. He was pathetic by my time---he not only slurred his speech, but I saw him putting away what looked like a gin or vodka bottle more than once during the cutaway to a break. He was very attached to his limited fame both on film and the small screen, but a lot of other people weren't. When some other bit player with a Detroit tie died, he called the family and they had no idea who he was!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2473857081653339896.post-82546228145348602692018-10-21T23:03:05.912-04:002018-10-21T23:03:05.912-04:00Hey Rick, This is John Monaghan from the Redford T...Hey Rick, This is John Monaghan from the Redford Theatre in Detroit. As you may already know, we are doing a tribute to Bill Kennedy on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m and 8 p.m. Is there a way you might share your memories on stage at one or both of these shows? Call me please. Reminds me of when I used to catch Joe Franklin on some UHF channel in my youth. Only he never really did anything but gush over peoples talent and talk about the old days. No matter how mediocre they were.Ken Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04940648971296673233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2473857081653339896.post-34474350252151402192017-04-11T11:39:51.543-04:002017-04-11T11:39:51.543-04:00Ken, one thing I had to leave out were his intervi...Ken, one thing I had to leave out were his interviews with stars coming through Detroit to promote whatever. Bill was shameless. I remember not one, but two celeb couples he grilled on their feelings about the second Liz & Dick breakup. The first were Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss. Benjamin feigned surprise: "What? And they didn't call me with the news?!" The second were Robert Wagner & Natalie Wood, promoting their awful version of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." They were mortified, as they were both friends of Elizabeth's. Natalie's nervous tic of blinking rapidly was on display that day! In the Bay Area there was one of those dialing for dollars type movie shows that aired in the mornings with a perky hostess named Pippa. The interruptions for calling and trivia were so lengthy, it would take two to three days to get through a single 90 minute movie. Since it aired during school hours, the only times I got to watch it were when I was sick. Standing out in my mind is its theme music ("Florida Fantasy" from Midnight Cowboy) and watching Joan Crawford in "Dancing Lady" over the course of what felt like an entire week. Thanks for jogging a somewhat lost memory with your loving tribute to Bill Kennedy and his long tenure as the movie king of Detroit.Ken Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04940648971296673233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2473857081653339896.post-59777263951648428022017-03-22T07:17:15.849-04:002017-03-22T07:17:15.849-04:00The only other movie "presenter" in Detr...The only other movie "presenter" in Detroit back in the day was Rita Bell who had "Rita Bell's Prize Movie" on WXYZ 7.
Erebushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355749587938647004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2473857081653339896.post-22884047880855406032017-03-21T20:20:20.255-04:002017-03-21T20:20:20.255-04:00Glad you liked it, Gingerguy! I was watching old movies too, and snacking enough to land me in the husky department.
